*NYAMLEL, 06 July 2016 [Gurtong]* - Community leaders through their
executive chiefs and sub-chiefs initiated the move.

Those who contributed say that the contribution is meant to help the
victims start their lives again after losing properties and their homes.

Gau Deng, one of the organizing committee who helped set up the
contribution and managed to engage every chief said the exercise was simple
and timely.

“The exercise was easy and organized because when we started thinking of
doing this, we had already an idea of what to do and how we can approach
our community leaders to handle this. We found that some of them had a
feeling of contributing as individuals and thus making it easy to gather
this number of cows to help them meet their needs.”

He further says the cows will be driven to Raja where they will be handed
over to either the locally formed crises management committee or to the
State government leadership.

On other hand, Hon. Joseph Deng Nguach on behalf of his community appealed
to the national government to respond in similar way by donating either
food or non-food items to the local population of Raja whose assets got
burnt, looted or confiscated.

The Raja incident has been allegedly reported by the State government as an
unknown gunmen attack before shifting it to SPLA-IO or Sudanese rebels who
were allegedly reported to have jointly planned to attack Raja with some
local tribes within Raja area.
