WAU- August 8, 2016 [Gurtong] “Many devices including power banks, AC
cold machine for the station and many connection cables and wires were
badly demaged,” said Aleu. Important documents were also disposed
outside the fence.

Lusi Pasquale described the incident as planned to destroy government
properties at the station. Five men have since been arrested in
connection with the robbery because they were found in possession of
stolen spare parts from the station, they are under criminal
investigation.

The radio station, according to Aleu, was established in 1992 by the
Sudan government under the Sudan National Broadcasting Corporation,
supported by an American company.

The radio station was halted in 2013 after it experienced shortage of
spare parts and high cost of fuel, a year later it was turned into
frequency modulation (FM) broadcasting in Wau town

Before it was changed to FM, the radio was broadcasting on 1017 KHz,
covering Greater Bahr el Ghazal Region, Western Equatoria, Western and
Southern Darfur.

The station, according to Aleu, has played a big role in South Sudan
before the South Sudan’s independence.
