Over 2,000 South Sudanese refugees relocated to new camp in East Darfur
AD DAEIN (20 Sep.)
More than 2,000 South Sudanese refugees were relocated from Khor Omar
to Kario camp in Sudan’s East Darfur state, the UN refugee agency said
its latest report.
According to UNHCR, Kario camp, which is about 45 kilometres south of
Ad Daein town, was identified by authorities to host the South
Sudanese refugees from Northern Bahr al Ghazal.
“The relocation will help decongest Khor Omar and ensure better access
to basic services including access to water, sanitation and health
services and other assistance in Kario,”said the UN agency said.
As of 31 August, the total number of South Sudanese in Sudan had
exceeded 247,000, the refugee agency said, adding that fluctuating
figures in some refugee hosting locations is due to movements of
refugees within Sudan.
