Samantha Power meets Taban Deng over deployment of regional force in Juba NEW YORK (30 Sep.)
US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power met with South Sudanese First Vice President Taban Deng Gai on Tuesday in New York where they discuss peace implementation in the world’s youngest nation. In a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj, Ambassador Power underscored the United States’ continued willingness to work with the unity government in South Sudan. However, she noted that the government must demonstrate concrete progress toward the deployment of the regional protection force in Juba. Power also emphasized the urgent need for the government to remove obstacles to UN mission is South Sudan in performing its mandate and to stop the obstruction of humanitarian aid delivery. Ambassador Power stressed that the government must hold accountable those responsible for the July 11 attack on the Terrain compound in Juba. She also urged the unity government to move forward quickly in adopting legislation establishing the Hybrid Court for South Sudan, a critical tool for ending impunity in South Sudan. -- To post to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected] Visit this group at https://groups.google.com/d/forum/southsudankob View this message at https://groups.google.com/d/msg/southsudankob/topic-id/message-id For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
