CRNThursday, December 1, 2016 - 15:37

The Speaker of the National Legislature on Thursday suspended an
extraordinary sitting debate on the National Budget in its third reading.

Speaker Anthony Lino Makana says the suspension is due to consultative
meeting by majority SPLM Caucus in the parliament. He sees possibility of
debate on Friday tomorrow. There are critical issues to consult on, in the
budget, Speaker Lino highlights.

Earlier on, Stephen Dhieu Dau, the Minister of Finance cited difficulties
in stabilizing the economy including war. He indicated that without peace
and economic reforms, there would be no recovery.

The 2016/2017 budget amounts to 22.3 Billion South Sudanese Pounds. The
government intends to increase taxation on non-oil revenue to raise the
amount.

Alcohol, for example is expected to be taxed 100 percent. Foreign trips for
any person are expected to be charged 20 US Dollars each.
