Two people were killed in Yambio town on Sunday, says Gbudwe State Minister
of Information.Gibson Bullen Wande said the death occurred when gunmen
attacked a police post at Bazungua suburb in the town.

He said the deceased were on the side of the attackers, who exchanged
gunfire with the police. Two soldiers were also wounded in the incident.

Mr. Bullen said two others from the attackers have been arrested and taken
into custody for investigations. The identity of the gunmen and the motive
of their attack have not been established.

The security situation in Yambio town is reported to be calm after the
gunfight.Last month, gunmen attacked Makpandu Refugee settlement, a few
kilometers from Yambio town, where they kidnapped three police officers and
raided a food store.

The state Police Commissioner, Major General Monday Enoka, said police in
the state needs special training in Crime Prevention and Investigation.“We
want to recruit 2000 people, all young people, and we will need a
coordination mechanism between all the states,” Monday told a visiting UNDP
delegation in May.

State authorities say some former child soldiers, mainly from the
‘Arrow-boys’ have had difficulty in integrating into the society due to
absence of jobs.“They are coming home and if we are not able to give them
something to do with their life, they will go back to fight”, said a state
minister, Philip Pia Michael.

“If we give the young people the alternative of vocational training and
employment, they are clever enough to realize that it is much better to
earn their living instead of taking the risk of being shot,” remarked a
UNDP official, Balázs Hovárth.
