President Kiir sacks two governors, appoints new officials JUBA (19 Jan.) South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Wednesday night issued a decree removing two state governors and appointing two others. The decree read out on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), saw Boma state governor Baba Meidan Konyi removed and Ismail Konyi appointed. Gabriel Gai Riam, the newly appointed governor of Akobo state was also removed, barely two days after his appointment to lead the newly created Akobo State in the SPLM-IO controlled territory. In another decree, President Kiir appointed Gen. Johnson Gony Belieu as new governor of Akobo State.
