Kenyan court adjourns two SPLM-IO officials' case until Thursday

NAIROBI (31 Jan.)

A High Court in Kenya has adjourned its sitting on the case of two South
Sudanese opposition officials who disappeared in mysterious circumstances
in Nairobi last week.

Dong Samuel Luak is a prominent lawyer and opposition figure who has spoken
out against human rights abuses in South Sudan.

Aggrey Idri Izbon is a chairman of the SPLM-IO committee for humanitarian
affairs under rebel leader Riek Machar.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj today, Pouk Both Baluang, spokesman of the
SPLM-IO in Kenya, said the court decided to adjourn the sitting until
Thursday after the Criminal Investigations Officer Nicholas Kamwende failed
to submit a report on the disappearance of the two SPLM-IO officials.

He further said all Kenyan mobile phone service providers also failed to
provide data on the two missing men’s communications as requested by the
high court last week.

The opposition official pointed out that the judge also directed the County
Criminal Investigations Department to investigate the disappearance and
then present a report to the high court on Thursday.

Baluang noted that Kenya authorities are still denying knowledge of the
disappearance of Dong Samuel and Aggrey Idri. “The chief investigator today
has not presented anything important that can lead us to know the
whereabouts of Dong and Aggrey,” said Pouk.
