Deng Bul is urging the United Nations World Food Programme to intervene and
rescue the situation. He said since their arrival on the 31st of last month
at the church compound from their homes after the clashes between cattle
keepers and local community in Jur River County, the IDPs have not received
any food assistance from any humanitarian aid agency operating in Wau.

“The IDPs arrived here on Tuesday 31st January 2017, the first arrival was
around 2,000 individuals but the following days, there has been an increase
of more IDPs and an estimated 4,000 IDPs are so far sheltering at the
Episcopal Diocese compound,” said Bul.

“So far none of the agencies have given them food, so their conditions are
very bad especially in terms of feeding. We last week had some NGOs
including IOM they came and they gave them some non-food items including
blankets, mosquito nets and plastic sheets, water jerry cans among others.
They also dug toilets and also brought water but then they said WFP will
bring food but so far it has been 14 days now but there is no food that has
been given to the IDPs,” said the Bishop.

Bishop Deng said the Diocese and Relief for Development wing called
Christians action for Relief and Development has donated food for at least
two days.Bishop Bul said most of the IDPs are at risk of dying if no
assistance is accorded to them.“Our message as churches to both national
and State government, is that we really need peace, otherwise South
Sudanese will be in camps, so we really want the government to intervene so
that these community that has been forced out from their homes return to
their homes,” he said.
