Family of jailed ex-governor Elias Waya demands release for his daughter’s
wedding ceremony

The family of the detained former governor of Wau State, Elias Waya
Nyipuoc, is demanding their father be released temporarily to attend his
elder daughter's wedding ceremony in Juba today.

Sarah Elias Waya, who is Waya’s daughter, told Radio Tamazuj that her
father has been in detention for about seven months without any
investigation or charge.

She pointed out that they have submitted an appeal to the presidency and
the ministry of defense to release their father to attend his elder
daughter's wedding ceremoney in Juba today.Sarah appealed on behalf of the
family for the release of their father  for an hour to attend the wedding
ceremony of his daughter Veronica.

Elias Waya, former governor of Wau state, was summoned to Juba by President
Salva Kiir on 23 June 2016 and was relieved of his position as governor the
following day.

According to rights groups, Elias was arrested by military police on 26
June 2016 and detained at Giyada Military barracks. He was then transferred
to Bilpam military headquarters on 21 October 2016.
