PIBOR (10 Mar.)

The Governor of South Sudan’s Boma State, Ismail Konyi, has accused the
government of Jonglei State of supporting the attack launched by local
youth on Kotchar and Mau areas in Boma State since last weekend.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj today, Governor Konyi said the local youth who
attacked their areas were heavily armed, claiming that the attackers killed
women and children and burned homes.

However, the official pointed out that attackers decided to withdraw from
the two areas on Friday.Konyi noted that the head of the United Nations
Mission in South Sudan, David Shearer, is planning to visit Boma state to
acquaint himself with the situation after the recent fighting in Kotchar
area.

Governor Konyi reiterated his commitment for peace between the two states.

For his part, Ayuel Guet, a representative of Jonglei youth, said they have
declared a unilateral ceasefire on the occasion of National Day of Prayer
called for by President Salva Kiir today.

However, the group gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the government of Boma and
the UN mission to bring back the abducted children and raided cattle during
an attack on Jalle and Gadiang in December last year. The youth leader
denied accusations of receiving support from their government.
