South Sudan Council of Churches in collaboration with the Catholic
Relief Service (CRS) in Western Lakes State today launched an Action
Plan for Peace and Reconciliation implemented by the inter-church
committee (ICC).

RUMBEK, 13 March 2017 [Gurtong] -The Peace and Reconciliation Advisor,
Mayiek Maper Manyiel urged all faith based groups during the launch to
utilize funds by achieving peace and stability among the community of
Western Lakes State.

“The Government of Western Lakes State will stand to support the
inter-church committee (ICC) and participate in the community peace
dialogue and in disseminating peace agreement to the local community
in Western Lakes State.” Said Mayiek.

The Arch-Bishop of Eastern Bahr el Ghazal province, Alapho Manyang
Kuctiel Nhiera said the inter-church committee (ICC) which is funded
by the catholic relief service (CRS) and other faith based groups will
work to disseminate peace and reconciliation through organizing peace
conferences.

Alapho Manyang said, “The Inter-church committee will train and teach
our community about the importance of peace and reconciliation and
worse part of conflict among ourselves.”

The Acting Chairperson of the Inter-church committee (ICC) in Rumbek,
Elija Magel Manthom on his part said  the future of South Sudan is at
risk and efforts must be together to bring unity  to the people in the
nation.

“Most of our leaders and community think that only through war change
come to this nation but we have to pray for them so that God changes
their hearts as well.”

The Chairperson of the Catholic Relief Service (CRS), Maker Mabor
Marial said the faith based groups are interested in working together
with the government and NGOs and hence called for support for the
inter-church committee (ICC) peace dialogue with the community in
Western Lakes State.

“The inter-church committee funded by CRS will have commitment and
determination to make sure that peace and reconciliation prevail in
Lakes State at large.” Said Maker.

The launch of the Action Plan for Peace and Reconciliation (APPR) was
attended by the representative of the civil society organizations,
religious groups and representatives from the Muslim committee in
Rumbek, Western Lakes State.
