Ngok Dinka chief urges America to prioritize Abyei protocol

ABYEI (17 Mar.)

Bulabek Deng Kuol, Paramount Chief of the Ngok Dinka tribe in the disputed
territory of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan, has called on the United
States of America to play a key role in helping to resolve the issue of
Abyei area.

Kuol told Radio Tamazuj in an interview on Thursday that they briefed the
visiting American delegation on developments in the region, saying the
United States is the custodian of the Abyei protocol.“Americans are the
initiators of the Abyei protocol initiative and they have played a great
role as well in the whole CPA peace deal. How can they not resolve the
issue of the region? America is hosting the United Nations headquarters and
they are talking about human rights, “said Bulabek.

On Wednesday, the US embassy in Khartoum issued a statement that American
delegations from both Khartoum and Juba have been constantly visiting Abyei
to evaluate the efforts of the UNISFA to maintain security and stability in
the region. The statement also mentioned that the visits are meant to review
the agreements regarding the joint administrative area and the final status
of the Abyei area in line with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).
