A commercial plane crashed this afternoon in Wau Town, killing several
passengers.Eye Radio’s reporter Deng Dimo says some passengers on board are
feared dead but the number is not yet clear.“The plane was blowing smoke
from the tail…,” Dimo reported. “But when it touched the ground, it
immediately burst into a huge flame.”Due to poor visibility in Wau, the
pilot “missed the runaway” and hit a fire engine, an eyewitness said.

The Director of Wau Teaching Hospital, Dr. Edmond Sebit, says several
people injured in the plane crash have been taken to the health facility
for treatment.

Red Cross Wau branch manager Leon Arkanjelo said they have rescued 16
survivors.

For his part, Wau Airport Director Stephen Kejo said there 44 passengers on
board plus 5 crew members. Among the passengers were 5 little children. The
plane belonged to South Supreme Airline. The cause of the crash is yet to
be known. However, other sources on the ground claim that no one died in the
crash.
