Kiir removes Ruweng governor, appoints new official

JUBA (29 Mar.)

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Tuesday night issued a decree
removing Ruweng governor from his position and appointing a new official.

In a presidential decree read out on state-run SSBC, President Kiir removed
Governor Theji Da Adwad Deng and replaced him with Them Machar Kuol to
serve as the new governor.

The decree comes after Theji switched allegiance from the SPLM-IO faction
allied to First Vice President Taban Deng Gai and joined President Kiir’s
faction.

In another order, Kiir appointed Atem Garang Dekuek as the government chief
whip in the national parliament. Atem replaces Tulio Odongi, who was
appointed to replace him on 17 November, 2013.

Kiir also appointed Majok Mading Majok as a board member of Nilepet.
