First Session of New Podcast Series on SDG 16: Documenting Illicit Arms
Flows in Conflict and Post-conflict Environments

In our first podcast in a new series on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)
16, experts discuss the ins and outs of measuring illicit arms flows in
conflict and post-conflict settings.

SDG 16 Target 4

aims to ‘by 2030, significantly reduce illicit financial and arms flows,
strengthen the recovery and return of stolen assets and combat all forms of
organized crime’. How do we measure these illicit arms flows to determine
their spread and, thus, their reduction?

Holger Anders, Researcher on Illicit Arms Trafficking; James Bevan,
Executive Director, Conflict Armament Research; Nicolas Florquin, Senior
Researcher and Research Coordinator, Small Arms Survey; and Savannah de
Tessières, a consultant with the Small Arms Survey and the UN, all have
extensive experience researching illicit arms flows in conflict and
post-conflict settings. In this podcast, they talk about challenges
encountered when conducting such research as well as their suggested
solutions and future approaches.

The Small Arms Survey produces these podcasts in parallel to case studies
on measuring illicit arms flows in: Honduras (available in English
