SPLM-IO official urges revival of peace deal

KHARTOUM (4 Apr.)

A senior SPLM-IO member allied to former First Vice President Riek Machar
has urged the African Union and the international community to revive the
2015 peace deal.

Kuong Dak, who is former member of South Sudan parliament, told Radio
Tamazuj on Monday that the signed peace agreement has collapsed, while
urging the international community to resuscitate the agreement instead of
supporting Kiir’s dialogue initiative.According to Dak, the proposed
national dialogue will not achieve peace in the country. “We need to fully
implement the peace deal, and if IGAD and AU are still thinking that there
is peace, let them come and show us how,” he said.“What we have in Juba now
is not peace because for us the peace deal is over. We did not sign the
peace alone, the international community is also part of the peace deal,”
he added.

The rebel official also criticised the proposal by the Joint Monitoring and
Evaluation Commission chairperson, Festus Mogae that Riek Machar should
declare a unilateral ceasefire from South Africa and join Kiir’s
dialogue. He claimed that their opposition group fights back for
self-defense only.
