Sudan renewed accusations against the South Sudanese government that it is providing support to Sudanese rebel groups. This comes after clashes between government troops and the Sudan Liberation Movement - Minni Minnawi (SLM-MM) and the SLM-Transitional Council in North and East Darfur states on Friday. The Khartoum government claimed that the rebels entered into the region from Libya and South Sudan.Amin Hassan Omar, who is in charge of the Darfur dossier, said the recent attacks by the rebels that are based in South Sudan aimed at tarnishing the image of the Sudanese government ahead of the expected lifting of sanctions against it. He pointed out that the government’s priority is to stop the war and have a lasting peace based on the Doha Peace Agreement. Omar further said that the recent government meeting with rebels opposed to the agreement in Berlin aimed at bringing them on board. For his part, South Sudanese Lol state Information Minister, Omer Ishaaq, denied the accusations saying the two countries are abided by the 2012 cooperation agreements that do not allow either party to support armed groups of the other.Ishaaq insisted that the government of South Sudan fully respects that agreement and has nothing to do with the recent fighting. -- To post to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected] Visit this group at https://groups.google.com/d/forum/southsudankob View this message at https://groups.google.com/d/msg/southsudankob/topic-id/message-id For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
