*Violence erupted in north and east Darfur this month between the
government and rebel groups, inducing mass displacement of residents. *The
area and rebels involved have not experienced fighting for quite some time.
The resumption of conflict may affect the peace talks and a U.S. state
department decision whether to lift 20-year old economic sanctions next

*A new report claims Sudan continues to import and export arms despite
international embargoes. *The Conflict Armament Research group notes how
Sudan continues to import and manufacture considerable amounts of weapons,
exporting to non-state armed groups in South Sudan, Syria, Libya, among
others countries. Given this evidence, Khartoum's interest in curbing
internal military offensives appears unlikely. *Read more

*Internal rifts within the SPLM-N rebel movement has triggered violence in
Blue Nile and in the neighbouring Maban refugee camp, South Sudan.* The
incidences could complicate future peace talks and incur more tensions as
refugees flee back to Blue Nile State where food insecurity persists. The
UN reports that thousands are now displaced from the violence.  Read more
