South Sudan wrongly started after CPA in 2005, says Dialogue Committee

CRNThursday, June 1, 2017 - 09:54

The SPLM party started wrongly right from 2005 after signing the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement, says a member of the Steering Committee of
the National Dialogue.

Clement Wani Konga, says it was the wrong beginning that led to the current
crisis in South Sudan because no system adopted. He mentions segregation,
lack of action to issues raised and leaders working according to their own
interests forgetting the people.

Wani calls for the participation of Riek Machar Teny and the other
oppositions in the national dialogue if peace is to be achieved. He also
calls on the leaders to develop and start the governance system afresh,
close the old page and open a new one.

Gabriel Yoal, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee, says they will work to
include those outside the country for the sake unity and peace to make
South Sudan good again.

Another member, Lily Albino Akol, calls on SPLM to stop reminding people of
what happened in 1991 and other bad “past mistakes”.

Fr Matthew Pagan, Secretary of the Committee, points out that people have
been promoted to hold positions without qualifications and top commanders
are rewarded after rebelling.

The members of the National Dialogue Committee talk freely on what they
feel has been going wrong in the country without any obstacle. The national
dialogue committee was speaking on Wednesday during their third session in
Juba.
