Peace Conference Between Luo And Dinka Communities Begins In Wau
A peace conference that aims to resolve issues that led to the
conflict between Wau State Luo agricultural farmers and neighbouring
Dinka Tonj cattle keepers since December 2016 to February 2017 began
on Sunday in Wau State Roc- Roc Dong County.

WAU, 19 June 2017 [Gurtong] - The conference is being facilitated by
officials from the two States led by Wau State Governor Andrea Mayar
Acho and Mahiem Bol Malek the Deputy Governor of Tonj State who is
representing Governor Akech Tong Aleu at the conference.

The conference also is being attended by community representatives
headed by traditional leaders and youth groups from both sides;
Majokwuds (Gelweng) from Pagol, Malol Counties and Kwajiena plus the
host County Roc Roc Dong County’s representatives.

Speaking to the press after the opening remarks, Wau State Governor,
Andrea said his State is happy to receive a delegation from Tonj State
to attend the peace conference which is expected to end and bring
peace between Wau farmers and Tonj cattle keepers.

Acho said the coming together of the children of Wau and Tonj State
for the peace conference is a significant end to the bloodshed that
has caused many lives and loss of properties since the conflict begun
last year.

“Today we are very happy; we have received our brothers and sisters
from Tonj State, we the two States we have come here for the peace
conference and we have here the members from the National Assembly and
council of States in Juba. We are here for a solution following the
problem between the communities,” said Acho.

“Our aim is to reach an amicable solution that will bring an end to
the conflict between the Dinka Tonj and the Luo of Wau State,” said
Acho.

Meanwhile, Tonj State Deputy Governor, Mahiem Bol said the people of
Tonj State are committed to the peace conference in order to restore
peace between the two communities.

“Our being here today is to discuss the matters related to bring the
two communities together, Dinka Tonj and Luo of Wau because we all
know that in the last few months, conflict erupted between the two
communities,” said Malek.

He said that everyone is free to express their opinion about the
conflict in the conference so that a solution can be reached over the
matter.
