At least 47 people have died from hunger in various areas in South Sudan’s
Amadi state since June, a local official said.Amadi’s Minister of Local
Government, James Abdullah, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that many people
face food insecurity in the area, adding that hunger is now killing local
residents in the state.

He revealed that the preliminary reports confirmed the death of about 47
people due to hungry in Aguele, Mvolo and Bahr Girinti Counties between
June and July.Abdullah said they appealed to the national government in
Juba and humanitarian organizations intervene and save the lives of the
hunger-stricken people.

Food security is worsening in South Sudan due to ongoing conflict, poor
harvest and surging inflation with around half of the population facing
hunger across the war-torn East African nation.
