The government has cleared the regional protection force for deployment in
Juba, the minister of Cabinet Affairs has told Eye Radio.

Fourteen top Commanders of the RPF have been in the country since March as
part of the deployment process.Earlier, Dr Martin Elia Lomoro said their
forces had been allocated land by the Jubek state government, along Yei
road.“We have done our part and we just wait for whatever is required of
us,” Dr Lomoro said during an interview.

The 4000-strong force is expected to arrive in Juba “at the end of the
month”.The force is mandated to protect key installations such as the Juba
airport, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and use all
means to protect civilians. The RPF is also authorized to use militarily
means to respond to armed groups deemed to be attacking the other. It was
supposed to be deployed before the end of last year, but the process
delayed.
