JUBA, 31 July 2017 [Gurtong]-The Health Link’s Nutrition Officer, Mr.
Ogak Jerry Justin in an interview with Gurtong last Thursday said that
the cases mentioned were found during MUAC screening in nine health
facilities.

“Health Links South Sudan has also registered eight two edema cases in
Al-Sabbah children’s hospital, some of which were cases of referral to
other medical centers” he stressed.

Ogak revealed that Health Link has been implementing the nutrition
project since November 2013 with support from Health Pooled Fund and
UNICEF.

“We are currently working in Ikwotos, Greater Lopa Lafon, Juba, Bor
POC and Malakal.”
“Our targeted beneficiaries are children under 5 years with acute
malnutrition and vulnerable Pregnant and lactating women (PLW), HIV/TB
patients” he added.

He further said that HLSS chose to implement the project in nutrition
due to the burden of malnutrition initiating that almost 1/3 of
children in South Sudan under the age of 5 years are malnourished
according to the latest Food Security and Nutrition Monitoring System
(FSNMS) report.

He however says that the program is facing a number of challenges in
carrying out their work efficiently.

“HLSS faces insecurity in some places in the areas of coverage, lack
of localized skilled health care providers, poor road access and bad
weather, rigidity from the local authorities to mention but a few” he
said.

Ogak explained that the government supports in coordination of project
activities through linking HLSS with the host communities as well as
provision of localized skilled health care providers in various
project sites.

He added that HLSS is also implementing Maternal Child Health (MCH),
Primary health Care (PHC), Cholera response, TB/HIV services apart
from nutrition.

“HLSS urges all South Sudan to strengthen agriculture and improve food
security and livelihood, we should all focus on a healthier South
Sudan through promoting peace, productivity and healthier minds” said
Ogak.
