Visiting top UN official discusses security situation with defense minister in Juba
The visiting UN Under Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, has discussed in Juba with South Sudan’s Minister of Defense Kuol Manyong the security situation in country. “We discussed security situation in South Sudan. The minister briefed us on the evolution of the situation and there are many challenges, so we expressed the strong hope that there will be further improvement in the security situation,” said Jean-Pierre. He pointed out that they called on the defense minister to allow unhindered humanitarian access in the country. He added that they also discussed the deployment of the regional protection forces in Juba. South Sudan’s Minister of Defense, Kuol Manyang, said the meeting focused on the security situation in South Sudan and Abyei.
