The 29 candidates contesting for positions in the East African Legislative Assembly are now campaigning at the August House in Juba. The men and women have expressed interest to represent the country in regional parliament. This recruitment process came after a court in Tanzania rejected nine members appointed by President Salva Kiir through a decree in March. According to the Assembly clerk Alala Yunis, the candidates – including three women, have all met the requirements to contest for the regional posts. Some of them are members of the political parties; while others are independent candidates. After campaign, MPs of the Transitional Assembly will Thursday vote in only nine candidates they think have what it takes to represent the interests of South Sudan at the East Africa Legislature Assembly.
