Maiwut governor says preparing to go to Pagak as rebels driven from
stronghold

The governor of South Sudan’s Maiwut state said this evening that he was
preparing to go to Pagak as they finally drove rebels from their last
stronghold after heavy fighting yesterday.

“I am preparing now to go to Pagak and deliver peace messages to the
community of the area. The control of Pagak which is one of the areas under
Maiwut signifies return to peace and stability,” said Governor Bol Ruach in
an interview with Radio Tamazuj.“The anti-peace elements were using it as a
base of their activities. They were using it as a launching ground of their
attacks but now that they been flushed out,” he added.

The state official further said they will fully control the border with
Ethiopia, pointing out peace was the top priority of his administration.
Ruach called on the traditional leadership to help in dissemination of
peace, reconciliation and forgiveness messages.The top state official
claimed that the security situation was stable since Sunday after the fall
of the rebel headquarters. He called on all civilians who fled due to
clashes to return to their homes.
