In keeping with his administration's strategy of trying to discredit critical voices, he accuses the statutory body of being partisan and politically-motivated. Will this all end in dictatorship? Perhaps, but Lungu currently lacks the legitimacy, charisma and resources to sustain such a regime. http://africanarguments.org/2017/08/11/dr-congo-opposition-elites-wont-save-us/ ** DR Congo: Opposition elites won’t save us (http://africanarguments.org/2017/08/11/dr-congo-opposition-elites-wont-save-us/) ------------------------------------------------------------ As President Joseph Kabila maintains his grip on power and instability grows, observers are putting their hopes for change in a handful of prominent opposition leaders: Moise Katumbi, Vital Kamerhe, Felix Tshisekedi and Sindika Dokolo, to name a few. But many Congolese see these men as elites like Kabila, who have contributed to the very situation in which the country now finds itself. http://africanarguments.org/2017/08/10/paul-kagames-life-presidency-the-world-abandons-rwanda-again/ ** The world abandons Rwanda again (http://africanarguments.org/2017/08/10/paul-kagames-life-presidency-the-world-abandons-rwanda-again/) ------------------------------------------------------------ Following President Paul Kagame's electoral victory with 99% of the vote, his former chief of staff now in exile in the US speaks out. Theogene Rudasingwa, Kagame's right hand man from 2000 to 2004, accuses Kagame of war crimes and atrocities in Rwanda and neighbouring DR Congo. With its uncritical support of Kagame, he accuses the international community of turning its back on Rwandans as it has done time and again in the past. http://africanarguments.org/2017/08/11/photo-of-the-week-firing-it-up-in-mali/ ** Photo of the Week: Firing it up in Mali (http://africanarguments.org/2017/08/11/photo-of-the-week-firing-it-up-in-mali/) ------------------------------------------------------------ In our Photo of the Week feature, we will be showcasing one of the boldest and most beautiful images, old or new, that we’ve come across that week.
