Situation of prisoners “bad”, all over South Sudan, says Director
CRN

The situation of people in jail is bad all over the country, says
Director-General of South Sudan Prison Services.

Henry Kuany Aguer says the feeding of prisoners is a problem because
they only provide what can keep them alive.

The Director-General mentions congestion as another problem as the
judiciary is not functioning to try those accused of any criminal
acts.

The provision of medicines is also very scarce, Director Kuany adds.

Nyuol Justine Yaac, Acting Chairperson of South Sudan Human Rights
Commission urges the government to address the issue of judiciary for
it to be functional.

The officials spoke during a roundtable workshop on legal aid
services, organized by CEPO in partnership with South Sudan Human
Rights Commission.

The seminar was under the theme: “Actualizing paramount legal services
is a responsibility to protect human rights”.
