YIROL, 20 September 2017 [Gurtong]-In an Interview with Gurtong, the
Commissioner of Police in Eastern Lakes State, Major General, Deng
Malual Mabur, said the Executive Chief, Kuer Dhuor was killed while
attending a marriage ceremony.

“It is really very unfortunate that the group of armed youth from
Kuacdit section killed the Chief innocently while sitting on a chair.”

“They came as a group during the marriage ceremony, and unfortunately
one of them just came behind the Chief Kuer Dhuor Kuer shooting him
with two bullets on his back intentionally,” said the Police
Commissioner of Eastern Lakes State, Malual Mabur.

Mabur said that the government of Eastern Lakes State including the
Governor, Bor Philip Wutchok, and organized forces are now in Nyang
County headquarters to curb the security situation between Kuacthi and
Kuacdit rival sections.

“Our worry as the government is that the entire Kuacdit section has
fled Nyang town for safety after the incident of the killing of the
Executive Chief by their armed group, and it is only Kuacthi section
where the late Chief belonged remaining inside Nyang Town” said Mabur.

Mabur appealed to both communities to remain calm and allow the
government of the State to address the matter as the killer is known.

The Chairperson of the civil society organization network (CISON) who
spoke to Gurtong on behalf of the civil society organization, Isaac
Majier Majok strongly condemned the killing of the Chief.

“As the head of the civil society organization, we condemn in the
strongest term possible the killing of Sultan Kuer Dhuor Kuer and we
are calling upon the government of Eastern Lakes State and the
community to apprehend the culprit immediate without delays.” said
Majok.

Mr. Majok appealed to the family of the victim and all the mourners of
the tragic incident to allow the government to apprehend the culprit
and to ensure that justice prevails in the community instead of taking
revenge which would affect the entire Kuac community and greater
Yirol.

Majok said the escalation and wide spread of culture of killing chiefs
must be given serious attention by the State government of all three
States.
