Summary: sox won't run under Windows 98SE

Initial Comment:
Running sox.exe generates "This program has performed an illegal operation"
message. Versions 14.3.2 and 14.4.0 are affected; reverting to version 14.3.1
resolves the issue.

Message:
If you are asking if I've looked at the source code, sorry, I have not. At
the moment, all I know is that running sox.exe (or even the Win32
installer) immediately produces the error message. It's probably not worth
looking into any further because, as bat999 indicated, Win98 is ancient.
Besides, I could always use an older version, which seems to work fine. The
shortcuts play.exe and rec.exe are not included with the older versions,
but sox.exe can, of course, be used instead. Thanks for your interest.

Can you find out what the “illegal operation” is and where in the code
it happens?

Message:
Your point is certainly valid and I certainly understand. It's too bad,
though, because there are so many old (and inexpensive) computers out there
that are still functional and they can sometimes be put to use doing some
low-level mundane tasks. I will see how it goes with the older version. (By
the way, I use Windows 98 *only* when experimenting with old computers.)
Thank you for your time.

Hi

According to Wikipedia, Windows 98 operating system has been unsupported by
Microsoft since 2006.

SoX cannot be expected to run on Windows 98 OS.
