ODE is statically linked, so this is not an issue.

Er, rather not - it makes life very complicated for 3rd-party packagers
for Linux distros. Most ship ODE already and if you have your own ODE
(e.g. patched one), then you will get crazy conflicts depending on which
ODE gets linked in at runtime (with shared libs).
It is a very bad practice to ship everything - Soya is not the only
software I am going to install on my machine and I do not want it to
interfere with other things.
