Carrhae smiled. Before she could answer, however, someone cleared her
voice behind them. When she turned, she saw Kalina, now dressed in a
travelling suit and carrying a small case, standing just inside the room.
Kilina said, "Terise, Matthew, dinner is ready. Will you be here in the
morning?"
"We will be leaving early," Carrhae replied. "If you have not returned by
then, I will shut everything down."
The other woman nodded. "Then, I will see you another time." She smiled
and said to Matt, "I hope to see you as well, Matthew."

The woman waved and walked through the door that led to the trausporter
room. Seconds later, the distinctive whine of the transporter could be
heard.
Carrhae gave Matt a thorough tour of the upstairs and the garden area
downstairs. She explained as they walked through the small, but lush,
garden, "Kalina lives in down here, where she can do some of her
research. The lecture she is to give at Oxford in the morning is on the
curative properties of a number of the plants you see."
She smiled at his reaction. "Did she call her the housekeeper again? Dr.
Kalina Haleakala is my cousin. We share this house. She knows a great
deal about tropical medicine and Hawaiian cuisine.
"Let us eat. She will quite upset with me if I allow it to grow cold."
She led them back upstairs, past a large dining area designed to seat
eight, and through the patio door to the outside. There, a sumptuous meal
had been set, buffet style, near a table.
