>Matt couldn't help the crooked smile that split his lips. "It seemed the...
 >prudent...thing to do," he said quietly. He crossed his legs and
smoothed out his
 >scrubs. "I was somewhat... dismayed by what I heard on the news
today." His voice
 >was still carefully neutral.

"Considering the circumstances, I asked Commander K'Tael to be present",
Lorin leaned forward, steepling his hands, "That is
understandable....Doctor, I am going to be dead honest with you. We may not
have agreed on much in the past, however you have a great deal of respect
in this office, both as an Admiral and a Doctor."

"Thank you," Matt said simply, inclining his head to show his own respect.

"Neither myself, Commander K'Tael, or Captain Boulay authorized this
release, or even discussed you as a possible suspect. I personally will say
that I do not believe you would do such a thing."

"I appreciate your faith in me."

"You will remain on duty nor will you be taken into custody. Fact is that
no evidence has arisen to support this claim, which means someone is trying
to frame you. The issue that does arise now is that the media is now
involved and that we are all in a very uncomfortable situation. With the
public's involvement and having caught us proverbially with our pants down,
we now must investigate your presence in that room when the attack took
place. We have no option." Lorin was clearly unhappy with that fact and he
had no problem letting that show.

Matt seemed confused. "But you *did* investigate it," he told him. "I sat in this
very chair and answered questions about what I remembered."
