She nodded. "Good. While the state of the fleet is disgusting, using
Starrr Chamberrr tactics is not acceptable. As long as therrre is
overrrsight and the trrrials arrre public rrrecorrd, I am satisfied."
Well, she wasn't completely, but at this point there was little she could
do. Her fear was that the task force could use its weapon, the
pronouncement of corruption and thus, dishonor, to go after those who
watched them. As to proof - well, she had seen proof manufactured to
achieve results. If the overseers were eliminated, there would be nothing
between those at the head of the task force and absolute domination over an
already demoralized and disfunctional fleet.

A swastika appeared in her mind, and she remembered seeing old films about
a demonical human who achieved power in just that way. It frightened her.
But she was not in a position to do anything. Not yet, anyway. Kit
wondered when her new friends were going to contact her, and perhaps she
could find out more than even Lasiter knew about what was really going on.

"So, Admirrral," she said to Carrhae, "yourrr thoughts?"

(eh?)
