The other Caitian standing outside of Lasiter's quarters greeted the presenting Admiral.

<[Well enough. I'm a little nervous. This is my first official briefing in several years. But if I can stand in front of a Corr'thaval research counsel and try and get funding, I suppose I can do this."
<[Good. Oh, he may want to delay your departure until after the meeting tomorrow. Just to prepare you for that possibility.]>
She nodded. <[That's fine. I was going to wait until my new aide arrived anyway, and he won't be in until early tomorrow morning.]>
Just then she got Renaud's message. This annoyed her a little, since that was what the operations stadd was for, to take care of problems so the senior staff could deal with the larger issues, but it wasn't her call. <[Well, I guess it will just be me,]> she said. <[No time like the present...]> She waited until she was let in.
