<[He was caught off guard more than anything else.  Keep in mind that he is accostomed to running a Starbase and a Regional Command.  In those environments he was required to be in close touch with operations.  As CinC those rules do not apply, and it frustrates him to a degree.  He also does not completely trust SF Command as a whole just yet, and until he does he feels as if he has to be very involved in everything.  So he is being torn.  While he trusts you, he can not exactly say the same for Renaud.  Also, by treating you differently than others he would tip them off that he may not trust him.  He does not want that.  Those that he can not trust he wants out.  For what is coming he needs a SF Command that he can trust without reservation.

That and Captain Black is a close friend of his.  Black was an Ops officer on Lasiter's last starship command.  On a mission there was an incident, and Lasiter was in a real bind.  Black really stuck by him and earned not ony a debt or gratitude, but his implicit trust.  On the first serious mission of Admiral Lasiter's tenure as CinC he really wanted someone that knew him and could work with.   No reflection on you, but as you will learn, when he has his mind made up that is it.  Even if you show him something better, he has already made up his mind.  The old mad does not like to revisit decisions unnecessarily, you see....]>
