> "While I am not sure to thank you or not, I do appreciate your words of
>encouragement. And off the record, Admiral Lasiter would hate Snellings if
>he ever met the man. When I served with Admiral Lasiter back in the day,
>his favorite officers were not those that agreed with him, but those that
>were honest with him. Told him what he needed to know, not what he wanted
>to hear."
"Well, today I had to play to the opposite, a man who wanted to be told
what he wanted to hearrr. I do apologize, but it was the only way I could
think of to bait the hook was by feeding his ego. Once this is done, I'll
ask Admirrral Lasiterrr to have eitherrr you orrr him trrransferrred out of
herrre; prrreferrably him, so he can be put someplace wherrre he can't
hurrrt anything. A nice desk job in the Cygnus sectorrr, perrrhaps."
Cygnus sector was considered a posh assignment by the lazy, a dead end one
by the adventurous - in other words, perfect for a man like Snellings.
(resp?)
"Well, arrre the Caitians rrready on the planet?"
(resp?)
She nodded. "Then lets teach these teams how to fight the Caitian way."
She grinned, allowing full teeth to show in a feral, carnivorous smile.
Even though she'd be in mission control for this operation, making sure
things didn't go wrong on this first of several exercises, she felt the
fighting blood warming up in her veins. She wanted the Caitians to show
how good they were, but she also wanted her teams to do well and make her
proud. Being a spectator was the most difficult part sometimes.
(resp?)
Kit climbed onto the transport, the only thing to indicate she was a flag
officer was the subdued set of pips sewn onto her collar, grey on black.
She sat with the teams, forgoing the more comfortable ride in the cockpit.
(ready when you are...)
