"That is a touchy situation when you deal with the political machine. However one of the reasons I was brought in was because I *have* dealt with the machine. I believe I can bring the balance of this department and effectively engage it with their directives to come to some kind of a happy medium. I will stand up to them and as Department Chair it will be my job to mediate between their needs and the projects we must make progress on. It isn't going to be easy but it will work out. I promise you this."

>The Vulcan nodded. The answer would do, at least for now. The server broke in at this point and delivered the drinks and the appeitizers. They dropped off their wears and departed. The Chief of Staff posed a question of his own, "I understand tht you will be running two commands, Spacedock and R&D. Where in the pecking order do we fit in?"

Lorin had expected this question..."Yes I am responsible for 2 commands, but I consider them both equal with R&D needing more attention at this time to settle our current issues. I will maintain my Residence on Spacedock and will have offices in both locations. Being that Spacedock is our primary port, there will be times where my attention will be needed there as there will also be times when I'll be needed here. However, one aspect of command I have always handled well is delegation. If you have a good staff working for you, you're never out of the loop. My staff on Spacedock is unparalleled in my years in service, and I have asked some of my key personnel to assist me in preparing my office here as well as training new staff to perform duties here."

That did not sit well.... What he said was taken as many of those in R&D Admin will be replaced. This was unsetteling with the admin folk as well as the researchers. They had a good wroking relationship with the admin staff they had already. They all kind of stared at him for a long moment. Hutchinson saw this and decided to break his silence for a once. "The Admiral and I spoke about this briefly, and satisfied me that all of you will get the attention that you need. Before we degrade into pointed what if kind of questions about he plans on handeling every possible situation that may occur, perhaps it would be wise if we keep things at a high level tonight. Admiral Renaud has not officially taken over yet, so let's give him a change to move in and get settled." That calmed down the nerves a bit... {reactions}
