"The locals were huddling and then running to a sheltered location in the forest just out of view. Sometimes you just get a feeling about things, so I presented it to the Company CO to let an appropriate decision be made about the situation. The Company CO agreed with my suspicions and ordered a unit to check up. I requested to go with the unit and was originally denied but was allowed after pointing out that I would follow the strict orders of the Captain and Master Sergeant who I was assigned to work with."

"I am sorry...things are still a little fuzzy. We were told to hold position-we were at the rear of the group. Then from what I remember the front forces were taken out and we were suddenly under direct attack. I remember one of the officers I was assigned to was killed-the Captain I believe-I fired my weapon to defend myself, and then I was shot and blacked out. I woke up in a rebel uniform in a dark cell where for an unknown number of days I was tortured. At one point I believe I had a fractured rib or two."
