"In part sir. I have an outline of what I would like to implement."
Lasiter said handing over a PADD. "As you will see, the first steps include a
re-organization of Starfleet Command, an expansion of the role of the Marines,
an increase in Marine personnel by roughly 45,000, a JAG review board to
address complaints of JAG routinely overstepping their authority, plus some
quality of life iniatives. The latter including post assignment leave for
families that are separated for extended periods, an increase/expansion of
family services offered to dependants, and a change in transfer policy to
allow for longer assignments. All of which will not fix Starfleet, but will
move us seriously in that direction.
There are also some..., unpublished initiatives that are worth mentioning.
I have instructed Starfleet's Judge Advocate General to put together a task
force to root out those corrupt in Starfleet. This task force has been in
existance for sometime now, but I have purposely not publicized their
existance or activities so their work is not comprimised. A few field
commanders that have proven themselves grossly lacking have been relieved, and
new commanders assigned. A newly promoted Vice Admiral Michael Sinclair to
command the 6th Operation Fleet, a newly promoted Rear Admiral John Black on
the Klingon border, and the assignment of Vice Admiral Feylan as permenant
Chief of Starfleet Operations, up from acting chief, are a few examples. More
will follow, as a result of the aformentioned investigation task force, but
any mass changes will be sent to you prior to the orders being cut. Another
activity is that Admiral Lorin Renaud will be leaving his role as Chief of SF
Security shortly to take on the lead job at R&D. That unit is in a great need
for revitalization, and I believe that he is the best officer for that
particular job." Lasiter said to his boss, pleased with the report, but not
satisfied.
