(ooc: this happens towards the end of the Council meeting with the Venasians...)
On the Venasian News Network (which is a news station created primarily for non-Venasians to stay abreast of Venasian news. Not watched by many, but the station stubbornly remains in operation.)
"We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming with this late-breaking news on some unexpected developments on Pacifica. For details, we now turn to Tora Janaki of the Venasian News Corps, posted on Pacifica. Tora?
"Gentle tides and greetings. This is Tora Janaki with the Venasian News Corps, reporting live from outside the Venasian Government Offices on Pacifica. I have just received unconfirmed reports that the uninhabited planet recently discovered by the Federation and in consideration for a possible Venasian homeworld colonization may in fact contain a chemical known to be lethal to Venasians. Lapizine, a toxin which can cause birth defects, organ malfunction, and ultimately death over long-term exposure, was recently discovered to be present in several major bodies of water, including the largest ocean where the majority of the Venasian population would have settled."
"Thank you, Tora. Have you been given any reason why the Federation and Council survey reports omitted this detail?"
"No. At this point, the Venasian government has refused to comment on these rumors, and the government offices have been tightly locked down since these rumors surfaced. It is possible that because Lapizine is not lethal to other races, the concentrations fell below the survey's analytical bottomline and was not included in the report. But, as I said, these rumors are still unsubstantiated."
"Any comments from General A'amon's staff?"
"No. The presence of Lapizine was discovered by Chief Investigator A'srana during an internal survey of the planet, and probably had not yet reached the higher levels of government. However, this new development may force some comment or action from General A'amon's staff - if anything, to quell the wild rumors which are currently flying around the River."
"Thank you, Tora. Please keep us updated on any new developments in the story." The news anchor turned back to the camera. "Please join us during our regularly scheduled news break, where we will bring you any updates, as well as reaction from the Venasian public. Also, a special science report: What is Lapizine, and its effects? Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming."
