The decks were a complete mess. Walls and floors have buckled. There was no
power coming into the area except for emergency conduits that are supplying the
energy for the protective fields.

The site of the explosion created a breach two floors tall.

Renaud's eyes narrowed behind her e-suit's mask at the damage. Spacedock was
as close to home as the child of two 'Fleeters could claim, so she took this as
a personal affront. If this was the act of a sabateur, she hoped that she
would not come face-to-face with them, or she would not be responsible for her
actions.

"Ter-rible, isn't it, Lass," said a familiar voice behind her.

She glanced and smiled. John Bennett was a top-flight engineer who was rumored
to be the next chief on the Enterprise-G. He had been one of the fortunate few
who had trained with Montgomery Scott the year that the Academy had talked him
into teaching one more time. John had eagerly absorbed everything he could
from the man some of his classmates had mistakenly thought to be "a century out
of step." The results of that training had been bore out in this new "miracle
worker" that every captain fought to add to his/her/its crew.

Bennett was tall with hands that seemed too big for the delicate equipment he
handled with such skill. His deep chocolate skin seemed even darker against
the white of his e-suit.

"Yes," she replied simply. Then, "Top of the mornin' to ye," she adding using
an Irish accent that was just as native for her as the Scottish burr Bennett
had picked up from his mentor.

Bennett laughed at the continuation of their long-standing joke. Then, he
became serious. He said, "Thanks to the breach there was very little fire
damage. The lack of oxygen before the protective fields came online was enough
to extinguish them.

"Evidence suggest that this was no accident. There is nothing left of the
explosive device, but scans indicate that it did not use a great amount of
explosive material. It is likely that the device was some sort of
microexplosive that fed off a power conduit, using the energy being transfered
in the conduit to cause the damage. Such an explosive would be hard to locate
on security checks and would be fairly easy to build using everyday engineering
equipment."

"Damn," Renaud muttered. "At least the location chosen was not heavily-
travelled. A lot of beings could have been killed."

"Perhaps that was the idea," Bennett replied.

"Let the security folks worry about that one. What can we do to help?"
