> Kit put her hand over Carrhae's. "Don't," she said, her face impassive,
> but her eyes betrayed her pain, and her voice cracked.

Looking in Kitanya's eyes, Carrhae knew the cause of the other female's pain
before she answered for Carrhae had felt it herself.

>
> "M'Rrenn..." She closed her eyes. "M'Rrenn is dead."

Carrhae's other hand closed over Kit's and squeezed gently. No words could
suffice.

>Lasiter had sat forward again wondering where his Chief of Staff was, but
sank back into the chair. The wind taken from his sails once again. He
had not only lost a son, but lost an old friend. Lost one of his most
trusted confidants. As an awkward moment passed in silence, Lasiter inquired.

"The sniperrrs. He was one of the two casualties," she said, her voice low
and gravelly. "I don't know the specifics." She wasn't sure she wanted to
yet.

Lasiter just sat there for a moment then got up, and walked over to the large
emblem on the wall. He was muttering something, but neither could tell just
what he was saying. Images of M'rrenn being shot, falling dead. Samuel could
see his bloodied face staring up at the lights in a morgue, as techs worked on
other bodies. He saw Garibaldi fall, and feared the worst for him. His
friends were being taken out. First it was his son, then those others that
were close to him. His anger stewing, boiling....

"I want to find them," she said in a low, dangerous voice. "I want to find
them and kill them." And she didn't want Federation rules, no Starfleeet
regulations. Raw, dirty, one-on-one. It was personal for her as well, now.

He stood there for a good moment. A good long moment, then turned around fire
in his eyes. Flame and hate in his heart.

"No more. No more will Starfleet stand by and watch while the politicos, the
fear mongers, and pervayers of hate poision the Federation. This cancer will
be stopped. It will be excised now.

I want these hate groups brought to justice. I want it done now. Spare no
resource. Let no stone be unturned. Break down any door. Just find them.
The hate groups, the corrupt, all of them..... All of them except the
Brotherhood. We will smite them with God's own thunder...."

The anger, the furry that they all felt was fianlly voiced in it's clearest.
There would be no safe place for any of them tonight.

Were they in the Romulan Empire, Lasiter's words would be carried out with
frightful speed. The Tal Shiar would have begun with the surviving snipper.
With their interrogation techniques, they would have needed only moments to
learn all the being knew. Then, the agents would have gathered everyone
named, their families, associates,... and all would simply "disappear."

But this was not the Romulan Empire, and they were not the Tal Shiar. And
Carrhae suddenly realized that she had make certain that they did not become
that way.

"Samuel, my desire for vengence is almost overwhelming," she said. "But it
must not overwhelm me. Nor either of you. If we do anything that steps
beyond what Star Fleet and the Federation should be, then we give them the
victory they are seeking. And it would be an even greater victory because we
destroyed it ourselves."

"I will not allow them to take the lives of any more Starfleet personnel. If the
choice is between one of ours giving their lives or taking one of theirs, then the
choice is clear. They lose. If they want to take us on, then so be it.", he answered
the anger still alive.
