Admiral Lasiter had been sitting onthe steps outside of Starfleet Command Operations
for a good 5 to 10 minutes. He was indulging himself in the memories of his lost son
and friend. He would miss them terribly in the days, weeks, and months to come. But
he could not stay on those sunny steps for much longer. He had duty to attend to, and
the memory of that tall caitian that kept him focused for so long was nagging at him
to get back in there and do what he had to.
Standing slowly he brushed off his pants, and straightened his uniform a bit. Turning
to face the door, he said to the security (who were at a respectful distance), "Let's
get going. Thank you for indulging me for this long. Let's head to the canteen for a
quick coffee, then back to the conference room."
Responding with simple nodds of the head, the team made ready for the trip back
inside. Lasiter stopped at the door, and took one more look around. He knew it would
be the last view of sunshine he would have for some time.
The mini-mob headed to the canteen on the first floor. It was little more than a
large coffee shop, with freshly made baked goods and a wide variety of coffees and
teas. It was more remenissent of Seattle than San Fran, but no one complained.
Especially on those long shifs.... Lasiter was seen by everyone there, which was part
of the reason for coming. He wanted people to see him. See him walking around and
doing things that were ordinary. That would help install confidence in the troops.
It would also make it to the press corps and to the fleet that the CinC was well and
in charge.
As Samuel made a selection of a good coffee, the security detail leader called
t'Llhweiir.
"Admiral t'lLhweiir, sir. Admiral Lasiter is in the canteen getting coffee, and
will be heading back to the meeting momentarily."
