Brad had quickly made his way to Docking Bay 9. He was surprised that Admrial Renaud had not appointed a higher ranking officer to greet Ambassador Rilg. Of course, there were probably not any higher ranking officers available. Thankfully, he had been able to assemble an honor guard to meet him at the ship. It probably would not have done well to just arrive and search the ship.
The docking port opened to reveal a well-dressed Ferengi standing. Like most of his kinda, Rilg was quite a bit shorter than the average human, but he seemed to be missing the familiar pouch that so many Ferengi had. He was the fittest example of his species that Brad had ever met.
Brad stepped forward toward the Ambassador as the honor guard stood at attention. "Welcome to Spacedock, Ambassador. I am sorry for keeping you waiting, but I am sure that you can understand the increased security on board the station."
Rilg looked up at the young officer. He was disappointed that this was the best that the station could do to greet him. He would have expected someone of higher rank than a Lieutenant. Nonetheless, Lieutenant Arsineau definitely seemed to be doing a good job without being too nice. Rilg had had enough of that on the trip in. "I do understand, Lieutenant. I hope you will accept my and the Grand Nagesse's sincere condolences for recent events here on the station and on Earth."
"Thank you, Ambassador. Admiral Renaud sends his apologies for not being able to meet with you personally. He would like to schedule an appointment with you so the two of you could meet."
The Ferengi nodded. "I will do so once I am settled in," he replied. Just then, his servant stepped off the ship with his baggage. He was of the species often hired by the Ferengi as servants. Rilg nodded, and the servant stopped to await further orders.
"Perhaps you could give my servant directions to my quarters and then escort me to the new Ferengi Embassy, Lieutenant. My staff has not yet arrived, but I would like to get the embassy open as soon as possible."
LIeutenant Arsineau nodded to one of the guards. "Could you please bring..." Brad stopped and looked toward Rilg to get a name.
The Ferengi responded simply with a "Mecardan."
"....Mr. Mecardan to the Ambassador's quarters?" continued the Communications Officer.
The Security guard nodded, and she and the servant quickly disappeard down the hall.
Brad turned toward the Ambassador. "If you will just come with me, sir, I can escort you to the Embassy. We have actually put all of the embassies in the same area on the station in the hopes of making it easier for representatives to interact with each other as necessary. I think that you will find that we have all the latest technology available for use by the representatives on board, though, if there is anything that you find lacking, I am sure that we can get it for you."
"Lieutenant, I am sure that the facilities will be more than adequate," replied the Ambassador. "This is Spacedock. I am sure that the facilities surpass even the Enterprise, Starfleet's flagship. I am curious as to why there were no representatives from the Council to greet me when I arrived."
"Actually, the Council has just arrived themselves. They were on an extended mission to visit the Venasian government on Pacifica. They may not have been award that you were going to be arriving on the station. We did not know you were coming until you announced your presence in the Solar System."
Rilg stopped walking. "Are you saying my government did not inform you that I was coming?" asked the Ambassador with a bit of surprise.
"Well, sir, I believe that we knew a representative from your government was going to be sent, but we had not received any of the specifics of your arrival."
Rilg felt a broad smile spread across his face. He had to wonder why this lieutenant was not in the diplomatic corps himself. He was able to speak very delicately. "You have a tongue of latinum, Mr. Arsineau. I think the Federation Ambassador to the Council should be considering stealing you for his own staff."
Brad blushed heavily. "Thank you, sir. I am just doing my job." The group had reached the turbolift banks. "If you will just step onto the car, I can take you down to the deck the Ferengi Embassy has been placed."
Rilg stepped on and was amazed at how large the turbolift car was. It easily fit the whole group in the entourage and would have allowed for more passengers had they been allowed.
Moments later, the car slowed and the doors parted to reveal a vast hall with office suites off of it. Each suite had information on it in numerous languages, idebase ntifying the host nation of that particular embassy.
"Right this way, Ambassador," said Brad as he extended a hand down the hallway. After a short walk, the group arrived at the entrance to the Ferengi Embassy. The doors parted and the office suite showed to be beautiful. It was bare in order to allow each representative to decorate the suite in the manner that he or she saw fit, but it was adequate. "If you need nothing else, Mr. Ambassador, I will leave you to your work." "Thank you, Lieutenant," replied Rilg as he made his way around the office suite. "Please inform Admiral Renaud that I can meet within whenever he has an available slot in his schedule."
"I will, Ambassador," replied Brad with a smile. "Would you like the security guards to remain to help you set up since your staff has not yet arrived?"
"That would be nice," replied Rilg. "Thank you, Mr. Arsineau. I look forward to working with you in the future. I hope that everyone aboard the station is as pleasant to talk with as you are."
