Rilg studied the Romulan. It was hard to believe what she was hearing. "Are you telling me that you have evidence to support the letter that Ambassador Watson brought before the Council this morning?"
Ael nodded with a calmness that only Romulans seemed to have. An _expression_ full of arrogance about knowing what others did not flavored with the knowlede that she was only going to share what she needed to.
"I can understand your wanting not to reveal that Romulan operatives were the source for this information, but why do you want me to present the information to the Council. No one is going to believe that we were the ones who dug this information up. The Ferengi Alliance has never been considered one of the superpowers of intelligence."
Ael nodded again. "While that may be true, your people have had unprecedented access to many worlds in their role as merchants and businessmen. I am sure that it would come to no surprise to you or any of the other Council members that such merchants overhear things. Would it not be logical for them to sometimes pass that along to the government on Ferenginar?"
Rilg was amazed at the woman's deviousness. He was clearly out of his league in this situation. He had a feeling that he was just another piece on this womans 3-D chess board. At the same time, she was providing what was necessary to help the former Cardassian diplomat. Rilg had never met Golan Dulath, but he did not think it right for him to be a political prisoner, particular one being held by his own people. The Cardassians were not known for the well-treatment of their presoners.
"Such a situation would not be unprecidented," he replied. "I would be willing to bring this information before the Council, particularly if it could help Ambassador Dulath get out safely."
Once again, the Romulan nodded in response. "I would suggest that we wait until Ms. Damesh calls the Council together to report to us on the ability of Ambassador Dulath to meet with us. It could prove to be interesting to see how this plays out."
Ael's deviousness in this situation was surprising. He had understood her to be quite honorable for a Romulan. It was not that he placed honor highly, but she was not playing the diplomatic game the way he would have expected. "I agree, but more because announcing that we know this information too soon could place Dulath in danger."
Ael nodded before placing a PADD on his desk. Without saying anything else, she turned and walked out of his office, leaving him alone with the information.
Rilg was not sure how to react. She was definitely a bit on the mysterious side. It would definitely be interesting getting to know her better. He picked up the PADD and started reading the report. He did not like what he read. A part of him wanted to call a meeting of the Council immediately to share the information, but he knew that it would probably be better to wait.
