It was becoming a busy day, and Carrhae needed a moment.  She called Y'Toi.
"Hold my calls for five minutes," she said to her assistant.

"Yes, Admiral," the Ferengi assistant replied.

Once the connection was broken, Carrhae activated her private, secure
communications device and contacted a certain site on the British Isles.

Patiently, she waited to see if there would be a response.

(GMs?  They're not the only ones who might tap your fingers ;) )

It had taken several days, but the sounding stones in this particular patch of stream were now all turned in exactly the right conformation to give an A minor chord just as the stream shrank from the day's swell, at the exact moment that the sun began its dip behind the horizon, just on the far side of the River Shannon.

This was ancient land to Matthew Brennan.  He had lived here before he had taken the name, even, back when he was... wow.  It was so long ago, he could barely remember his given name.  Or his family.  They had lived on this piece of land, protecting it from the raiders from the North.

And then he'd died, and taken refuge in a monastary, and subsequently, he'd taken the name of the apostle who's works he'd spent so much time copying.

Hours ago he had taken himself a seat on the stream's central boulder, listening to the gentle tones as they resolved into that A minor chord.

And then the chiming had started.

He sighed, opened his eyes, and found the sun had slipped further than he had expected.

The comm call on his secret channel could only mean one of two things: Either one of his Immortal friends was in trouble and needed him, or Carrhae was missing him.

He desperately hoped it was the latter, which would only be right since he, too, missed her.

He pulled the small writing instrument from his pocket and his thumb found the embedded switch, fervently praying that it wasn't Amanda calling from another jail cell somewhere.  "Brennan," he said without preamble.  And then, in Rihanha, <[Please tell me it's you, my love.]>
