"Then I'll be in the officer's mess, Mr. Black. Carry on." He followed the admiral to the messhall.
"Yes, sir."
After the brass left, Black sat back down in the 'big chair'. "So, anyone got any plans for when we reach Spacedock?", Black asked looking to start some interesting conversations while the brass were gone.
"Well, I have a couple of siblings stationed in the Sol System. I am hoping that we might be able to arrange a family get together," replied Ariel at the Tactical Station. "Whenever we can, we try to meet in old Quebec City, where we grew up for some good old cannuck food."
"That sounds like a good plan. I hope to spend some time in Annapolis. This time of year they have a dish that I haven't had in several years, soft shell crab. It's the best."
Ariel could not help but feel a bit hungry at his description. "I have never been to Annapolis. I hear it is supposed to be a beautiful part of North America."
"Yes it is. Right off one of the many fingers of the Chesapeake Bay. It was a good place for shipping, in it's early days, and for harvesting the bounty of the Bay. It even was home to the naval academy for one of Terra's super powers. Besides, it is a nice quiet town to enjoy a good cup of joe or a brew or a tasty seafood tidbit." Donovan's love of the place was clearly evident in the way in which he spoke. It was almost as if he knew of no other home but there.
"Maybe I will have to make time to stop by there while we are in the area. I am always open to visiting new places."
"I'm sure that you'd like it. It's my home away from home, so to speak. If you would like a guide, just give me a ring. I can take you to some of the hot spots."
The Security Chief nodded. "I may just take you up on that offer. It will definitely be nice to be Earthside again. You will have to consider dropping by the Old City in Quebec City. The view of the St. Lawrence River from the old wooden walkway next to the Frontenac should be considered a natural wonder."
"I have never been there. I have been to West Point once, but never to Quebec City. What's it like?", Black was interested by this place. From the sound of the Security Chief's voice, it was a great place. Sadly, he had not traveled much on Earth....
"It really captures the feel of old Europe. The walls of the Old City, which were built in the 17th and 19th Century are still standing. In fact, many of the buildings are from that time period. The City hall has over 20 statues built into its facade, and the Plains of Abraham park provides a beautiful central square to visit. Restaurants serve food al fresco or you can eat inside, in these tiny little seating areas. There is this one little place I used to love to have breakfast where they would serve fresh croissants, baggettes and fromage, and cafe and cocoa in cups the size of soup bowls. As much as I love Starfleet, I still think of the Old City as home." There was the clear ring of memories in the tone of Ariel's voice as she spoke.
"It sounds like a great place. A throw back to days long past, and yet current at the same time. I may just have to give it a few days visit."
