Captain Fitzgerald had been on the bridge since just after his lunch with the Admiral.  All was well topside, but then he would expect nothing less.  His was a top-notch crew.  How much longer he'd have this wealth of talent was a question that ran through his mind often.  Officers of this calibre were not left on smaller ships for very long.  Soon, they would all be hand-picked by ambitious captains of larger and deeper-faring vessels, leaving him to train a new set of midshipmen.  Such had been the naval tradition since time immemorial.

But then, as much as he loved his crew, he loved teaching, so the tradition suited him well.

"Mr Black," he said as Spacedock McKinley began to loom larger in the center of their viewscreen.  "Be so kind as to make the proper notifications and request a comfortable berth for our fine lady."

"Yes, Captain.", Black said keying up communications with Spacedock.

     "Spacedock Control, this USS Centurian on standard approach form Mars.  Requesting permission for final approach, and docking privledges."

{response, SMK}

"Mr. Carrick, if you would be so kind as to slow to sub-light and loop around the station?  Let us all see for ourselves what a small group of dedicated but misguided anarchists is capable of."

"Aye, sir."

The destruction on the spacedock was horrifying.  Colin closed his eyes momentarily, silently uttering a prayer for the peaceful repose of those souls lost.  He then shook his head.  "Alright, then, Mr. Carrick.  With the harbor master's blessing, let us find our berth."
